Being a Mom to 2 boys is absolutely wonderful. I do really want 4 boys – but that’s not gonna happen – not anytime soon! I love them to bits and will do almost anything for them – within reason.
But being a Mom to boys scares me a little, not only because they seem to have this desire for thrill and a craving for Adrenaline ( I can’t wait to join them) – but the bugs and reptiles and amphibians really scare me. I have an absolute fear of worms – I touched a silk worm ONCE and never again. I touched a snake even – once!
If I see a worm in the garden or vegetables or wherever I jump and shake my hands like someone has electrocuted me! I do the same when a frog jumps infront of me. I think I do go into shock. Snakes, they are a different story – I stand deadstill, I cannot watch TV channels or movie scenes with snakes. If I page through a book I drop it if there are snakes on the page.
It petrifies me to think of the day(s) that one or both of my boys bring home boxes of silkworms – I will have a shit if the moths lay eggs in my house! Or god forbid a snake, I will not even sleep in my own house.
Today I was digging in the garden with Xavier and an earthworm surfaced (as they would) but I got such a fright and did my jump and shake and Xavier giggled – he thought this was so funny! He proceeded to touch the worm and then sqaush it with his spade. I do not do gardening because of all the worms (mostly) and the bugs in the soil. I will however attempt it only if I have gloves on – until I see the first worm.
I’m a little weary of letting Xavier play without gloves because not only are there squishy bugs, but the spiders (who don’t scare me much) that he could encounter and get bitten by is my concern.
As a Mom to boys I have to be so careful not to instill my fear into them. So I will sit and watch them play with bugs and worms, they are boys, they should play with bugs and worms. I am so careful not to instill any of my fears into them as I do not want my boys growing up being afraid of things. It can be so debilitating at times.
With that being said – I want to get an earthworm farm, a small one as part of sustainability and recycling. What AM I thinking?! (NO, I will not touch them!)

My daughter is more into bugs and stuff than my son
She often sits with a box/bottle/bag and fills it with worms she digs in the garden!
We have a worm farm and I never see the worms
We throw our stuff in it and use the worm pee for the garden and we never see them!
